In 2005, I published a calendar featuring female students from universities across the Netherlands. The calendar was part of a nationwide competition. The original website and the competition are long gone, but as the saying goes: at least we still have the photographs.
At the time, I worked as a photographer for Van Hall Larenstein, where I had also studied, and for Wageningen University. I photographed student life for the magazines Resource and Larenstein Nieuws. Being closely involved in student life is how the idea for this project came about.
The photoshoots took place in my former studio on Reinaldstraat in Velp, as well as at outdoor locations. When it came to distributing the calendars, I made one costly mistake: they couldn't be sent as regular letter mail but had to be shipped as parcels. The envelopes were just one centimetre too large. Instead of making a profit of six euros per calendar, I ended up losing one euro on every copy sold. That's also why it remained a one-off project — part from that, it was a wonderful experience!
