Nude photography, often referred to as fine art nude photography, is a genre of photography in which the naked human body is the subject. It differs from erotic photography, where sexual arousal plays a role. Nude photography also differs from glamour photography, which often places more emphasis on lingerie and the sensual appearance of the model.
In nude photography, the focus is often more on the shape and form of the body than on the individual person. A nude photograph can be a spontaneous snapshot or a carefully staged image involving complex lighting setups and professional studio equipment. One well-known approach is the figure study, where the face may not even be visible and the body is photographed almost as a landscape.
Personally, I enjoy capturing the personality of the model in the photograph. During a shoot I usually give very few instructions. We create the images together, responding to what we both find beautiful and comfortable. Especially when working outdoors, this can become a shared search for the right location, light and pose.
