In 2019–2020, I rented a studio in an old building in the center of Nijmegen. I had studio equipment there, but most of the time I worked with the natural light coming through the tall old windows. And sometimes I would also go outside with the model, into Nijmegen itself. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic meant I could no longer afford to keep the studio.
The studio was located in a historic building in the center of Nijmegen, with high windows and a beautiful wooden floor. A simple stool, or even no props at all, was often enough to create beautiful photographs.
Although studio flash equipment was available, I usually preferred working with daylight. It gave the photographs a softer and more natural look, and it was simply more enjoyable to work with. Especially in winter, it created a calm and intimate atmosphere that suited my style of photography. I also find the unpredictable nature of natural light interesting. A phrase often heard during shoots was: "Oh, we need to move to that wall now, look at the light!"
