In its October 2015 edition, the American Playboy made a remarkable move: from that moment on, the magazine no longer contained nude photography. Quite surprising for a magazine that is famous for exactly that. Now, almost a year and a half later, Playboy admits it was the wrong decision: ‘Nude is normal’ appears on the latest cover.
Cooper Hefner said on Twitter: “I’ll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was outdated, but removing nudity entirely was a mistake. Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn’t a problem. Today we’re reclaiming our identity and reclaiming who we are.”
On the Twitter account of the American Playboy itself (@playboy), the new cover featuring Elizabeth Elam was published.
Hefner therefore says that the photography in the American Playboy had become outdated. I am curious how the Dutch editor-in-chief views this. Personally, I think the photography in the Dutch edition is regularly of a very high standard, such as the work of René de Haan and Govert de Roos. Or the cover of Nine IJff featuring Lola Brood.
